Many psychiatry units neglect proper quality control procedures,
this can sometimes lead to excessive diagnosis of certain illnesses.
This website will show you how to put together a strong complaint form.
It will also show you how to do the mathematics and statistics involved.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Approximately 56% of these doctor's Diagnosis' are schizophrenia.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
1% of the entire world's population has schizophrenia.
20% of the entire population has a mental illness. 1 of 5 people.
56% of those, according to these doctors have schizophrenia.
56% of 20 = 11.2 %
11.2 % is quite a distance away from the 1 %
Z = 3.013
A probability of 0.0014 that 11.2 %
was due to randomness alone.
--------------------------------------------------------
Using the Central Limit Theorem, together with
the Strong Law of Large Numbers. Us = Up.
Sample statistic = Population statistic.
56% is a very long distance away from 1%
55% will be complaining BITTERLY.
It would seem like they ALL claim Misdiagnosis.!!
Where in fact misdiagnosis is very common.!!
56% - 1% = 55% Wrong.
55
---------- times 100 = 98.2 % chance of Misdiagnosis.
56
55 divided by 56 times 100 = 98.2 % Chance.
========================================
Probability
So using personal statistics as a track record (guide),
the very next patient who talks to them, has a probability of
56% Chance of being diagnosed as having Schizophrenia.
40% Chance of being diagnosed as having Bipolar Disorder.
But yet, for the rest of the World (The Real World),
these probabilities are 1% Schizophrenia and 3% Bipolar.
===============================================================
Null Hypothesis Ho = These doctors understand schizophrenia
Alt. Hypothesis Ha = These doctors DO NOT understand it.
Use Z statistic for comparison of two proportions or percentages.
Pooled observed probability
x1 + x2 56 + 1
p = ---------------- = ----------------- = p = 0.285
n1 + n2 100 + 100
and q = 1 - p = q = 1 - 0.285 = q = 0.715
P1 - P2
Z = ----------------------------------------
Sqrt ( pq [ (1/n1) + (1/n2) ] )
0.56 - 0.01
Z = -------------------------------------------------------------
Sqrt ( (0.285) * (0.715) [ (1/100) + (1/100) ] )
Z = 8.615 Standard Deviations from the mean
3.0 Standard deviations from the mean would be
less than 1% of cases left in one tail of the curve.
P = 0.0000 OO % chance From tables.
P values of less than 0.05 are good reason to reject
the Null Hypothesis.
So we can truly reject the null hypothesis and say that
These doctors do not properly understand schizophrenia.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Observations - Actual
Percentage Error = --------------------------------- x 100
Actual
56% Minus 1%
Percentage Error = ---------------------------- x 100
1%
% Error = 5500 % Wrong
With % Error the closer to 0 the better.
===========================================
Of all the people these doctors examine.
What percentage are diagnosed with a Mental illness ?
Do they only diagnose 20% of the population ?
They might be diagnosing 30% or 40% as Mentally ill.
Do these doctors make a diagnosis too readily ?
Patients don't like the diagnosis (stigma) = Dr Rationalizing.
Patients don't like being misdiagnosed = Reality.
==============================
These doctors might lie about their statistics to
cover up their incompetence. Be warned.
If these doctors claim they diagnose schizophrenia
at a rate of only 2%.
Then:- (2% - 1%) / 2% = 50.0 % Probability of Misdiagnosis.
Which would be TWICE as many as there should be. (2% vs 1%).
We could say
For every Diagnosis these doctors get right, they also get one Wrong.
For every diagnosis these doctors get right, they equal it with a mistake.
The toss of a coin 50 - 50, determines if the patient is diagnosed correctly.!!!
For a Doctor, these are not good statistics.
For the patients, it is a horrifying possibility.
===========================================
Is schizophrenia more common than Cancer.??
===========================================
650,000 living Australians have been diagnosed as having Cancer.
The Australian population is approximately 20 Million.
650,000
------------------- x 100 = 3.25%
20,000,000
So then 3.25% of Australians are living with Cancer.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 in 5 Australians has a mental illness. (20%)
56% diagnosis of schizophrenia.
56% of 20 = 11.2%
----------------------------------------
Cancer = 3.25%
Schizophrenia = 11.2%
-----------------------------------------
You are not 3 times more likely to meet a Schizophrenic than a Cancer victim.
==============================================================
For every 1 schizophrenic there is 2.6 Bipolar Disorder.
A ratio of 1 : 2.6
For every 56 schizophrenics, they have 40 Bipolar Disorder.
A ratio of 56 : 40 or Dividing by 8 we get 7 : 5.
Please examine those Ratio's together.
Reality = 1 : 3 or 0.33 One Third of Bipolar. (Reality)
These doctors = 7 : 5 or 1.40 One and a half times Bipolar.
1.4 / 0.33 = 3.64
These doctors are 3.64 times higher than world averages.
==============================
POPULATION ESTIMATES
--------------------------------------
If a Shire has a population of 220,000 people.
1 out of 5 people has a mental illness (20%).
20% of 220,000 = 44,000 ie. Diagnosed.
1% of mental illness is Schizophrenia
1.1% of 44,000 = 484 ie. Cases.
44 thousand people in the Shire have a mental illness.
These mental illnesses follow a NORMAL DISTRIBUTION.
These mental illnesses are all colours of the Rainbow from A to Z .
Every mental illness described in the mental health manuals.
Expected Statistics -- The Shire.
=============================================================
EXPECTED STATISTICS -- The Shire. ie. Diagnosed.

=============================================================
Totals (%) of Mental illness 70.2% 30,888 of 44,000
=============================================================
Expected Schizophrenia = 484 Cases.
The same amount as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
========================================================
In the Shire there should be a MAXIMUM
of 484 patients diagnosed as having Schizophrenia.
========================================================
This means, there should be 484 people taking
medication to treat Schizophrenia, in the Shire.
========================================================
==================================================
Number of Diagnosis' at The Hospital Psych Unit = ?????
Number of Cases of Diagnosed Schizophrenia = ?????
Number of Cases of Diagnosed Bipolar Disorder = ?????

Observed versus Expected
Schizophrenia - The Psych Unit.
------------------------------------------------
484 / 44,000 = 1.1% Expected
------------------------------------------------
(A) How many cases of Schizophrenia have
been diagnosed by these psychiatrists.??
--------------------------------------------------------------------
(B) How many patients (total) have been
diagnosed by these psychiatrists.??
(A)
---------- times 100 = % Schizophrenia
(B)
(Less than 484) divided by (Less than 44,000) times 100
equals % of Schizophrenia diagnosed at The Psych Unit.
=========================================
What we have is a Population.
From this Population, we are taking a sample. ie. Mental illness.
The 'Central Limit Theorem' , states that from any Population,
the sampling distribution will be approximately 'Normal'.
These doctors should have a Normal Sampling Distribution.!!
These doctors treat ALL mental illness, not just schizophrenia.
